Schools - exclusion of pupils: Outline
If your child has been excluded either for a temporary period or permanently, the Headteacher must put this in writing to the parent with a copy to the Local Authority (LA). If a child lives in Southend but attends a school outside of the Borough, that LA deals with the exclusion until the end of the process, at which point responsibility for education returns to the home LA.
An exclusion booklet that explains the different stages and the various processes involved with exclusions is available from the LA.
Pupil Referral Unit
Southend Pupil Referral Unit can be found at 100 Constable Way Shoeburyness. The Unit caters for pupils from primary school age to the end of secondary school.
It is not a school but an educational service which provides education for three main types of pupil:
- Permanently Excluded Pupils
- Pupils who are excluded from school for more than 15 days
- Pupils who need some support in getting their behaviour right in school
The contact number for the Pupil Referral Unit is 01702 298697.
