Council services
Animals - dogs - warden services: Outline
The dog warden service will help you if you lose your dog, and aims to prevent stray dogs from being a danger to traffic or a nuisance to people.
Stray Dogs
If you find a stray dog you must contact the Animal Warden on 01702 215005. Alternatively take it to the Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend between 8:45am - 5:15pm Monday to Friday. Outside these hours you should still call 01702 215005 in order to find out what to do.
Please don't assume that it is unwanted and keep it without reporting its whereabouts, someone could be desperate to find it. Dogs that are not claimed are kept for 7 days and then found good homes. None are destroyed unless their temperaments are unsound or a veterinary surgeon recommends it.
Lost Dogs
You need to notify the Animal Warden as soon as possible on 01702 215005 with a detailed description of the dog.
If after 48 hours you still have not found the dog we will post it here on the website for you, so if you have a clear photo please let us have a copy. It all helps! And keep us informed of progress so we can keep the site up dated regularly.
