Housing - empty residential properties: Outline
The Council works proactively towards encouraging the owners of long-term empty homes in the private sector to bring them back into occupation. Please contact us for more information.
Insecure Premises
If empty buildings are left insecure then unauthorised people could gain access. In order to protect public safety, the Council's Environmental Protection Team can require the owner to secure the property in order to prevent such entry.
The powers to secure premises only apply to buildings and not to land.
Please contact us if you become aware of any vacant buildings left insecure allowing trespassers to enter.
