Social services - meals on wheels: Outline
Meals on Wheels are provided by the WRVS. A hot main meal and pudding can be delivered lunchtime, to people who otherwise wouldn't get a hot meal.
Who can get a Meals on Wheels service?
You will need a social services assessment to find out whether we can provide this service for you. To qualify, you should be unable to provide meals in any other way, for example:
- Unable to heat ready meals or use a microwave
- Lack the motivation, appetite or memory to prepare meals
What does the service cost?
The daily cost is currently £2.60 for delivery of a hot main meal and pudding. The money is paid to the person delivering the meal.
Can I choose what meal I have?
Yes. WRVS provide a wide range of menu choices, allowing you to choose what you want each day if you wish.
We cover cultural (such as kosher) as well as dietary needs, and including special requirements like soft food or diabetic meals.
Can I buy Meals on Wheels privately?
No. Meals on Wheels cannot be purchased privately. However, we can provide information to help you arrange your own hot meals service.
If you are not eligible for Meals on Wheels, see our Local Support Directory for private local providers of hot and frozen meals.
