Licences - Chaperone Licence: Outline
A child who is engaged in any performance on the stage or any production for the media including modelling must be supervised by a licensed Chaperone (or Matron) who acts in 'loco parentis' except when that child is in the care of a teacher or a parent.
The role of the Chaperone is to ensure that the child performs within the terms of his/her performance licence and that he/she is properly cared for at all times and has access to meals, rest and recreation.
The Chaperone must exercise a level of care which a good parent might reasonably be expected to give the child.
The maximum number of children in the care of a chaperone must not exceed 12 at any one time.
All Chaperones must be licensed by the local authority ( LA ) and are required to undergo a Criminal Record Bureau enhanced disclosure before undertaking sole supervision of children.
The local authority will, upon receipt of satisfactory CRB disclosure, issue a Chaperone Licence.
