Council services

The Cultural Development Team promotes and organises various activities within the Borough of Southend. These include:

• Orchestral workshops - involving over 200 children per year
  Choral workshops - attracting over 200 singers from across the country
• Video and photographic workshops
• Literary projects
• Evening concert and recital series in the Plaza Centre (600 Southchurch Road) and other venues
• Lunchtime recitals in the Civic Centre
• Evening recitals in local churches
• Fortnightly series of recorded music recitals
• Organises and promotes the Southend Boys' Choir, and the Southend Girls' Choir, offering outstanding opportunities to young singers from across the Borough
• Promotes and organises workshops and outreach work in schools and community groups in partnership with the Cliffs Pavilion, New Empire Theatre and Focal Point Gallery
• Organises a range of arts activities for children throughout the school holidays
• Is available to give advice and assistance to local arts organisations.
