Better Southend: Outline

As a Unitary Authority, Southend-on-sea Borough Council is the highway, traffic and passenger transport authority for the Borough. As such, it has a statutory responsibility to prepare, monitor and keep under review a Local Transport Plan, and to submit this, together with its Annual Progress Report, to Government in July of each year.

Better Southend

Big changes will be happening across the Borough from January 2010.

Southend is currently experiencing a once in a lifetime opportunity for renewal and regeneration.  Four major projects have been chosen to make the town attractive, reduce congestion and boost our local economy.

  • City Beach
  • Victoria Square
  • Cuckoo Corner and
  • Progress Road junction along the A127

All the schemes include cycle facilities as part of Southend's status as a cycling town.

With £25million of Central Government funding, the biggest investment of its kind in Southend's history starts in January 2010.
