Roads - bridges: Outline
We are responsible for most bridges carrying a road or footpath, but some are Network Rail or privately-owned structures. Bridges supporting railway are Network Rail's responsibility.
We have an ongoing programme to assess the load carrying capacity of bridges. If a weak bridge is identified, measures are taken to strengthen it or alternatively a weight limit restriction may be imposed.
