Recycling - sites: Outline

There are two Household Waste Recycling Centres in the Borough:

  • Leigh Marshes, Leigh-on-Sea, SS9 2ET

  • Stock Road, Southend-on-Sea, SS2 5QF

You can recycle a range of materials at these sites including:

  • Garden waste
  • Batteries
  • Clothing and textiles
  • Engine and cooking oil
  • Scrap Metal
  • Soil
  • Wood and timber
  • Ceramics
  • Plasterboard
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Small electrical items

Daily Opening Hours:

1st November to 31st January - 08:00 to 16:00 (closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day)
1st February to 31st October - 08:00 to 17:00 (1st May to 31st August -Tuesdays 08:00 to 20:00)

Accessing the Household Waste Recycling Centres

Residents wishing to access our Household Waste Recycling Centres can now do so by presenting:

A valid form of proof of identity- either a Driving Licence or current Council Tax bill

Residents of Southend-on-Sea wishing to access the centres with their household waste using commercial type vehicles must also submit a completed Household Waste Declaration Form (HWDF). (please note that commercial/trade waste is not permitted at either site)
