Diamond Jubilee Community Champions

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council continued to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee by holding a free award scheme in which 60 individual residents or "Community Champions" were nominated by others for their outstanding contribution to the Community.

The winners, along with a guest of their choice, were invited to attend a celebratory event and buffet at which they were presented with a certificate and formally thanked by the Mayor and Youth Mayor and Deputy Youth Mayor at Saxon Hall on the evening of Wednesday 29th August 2012.

So who are Southend's Diamond Jubilee Community Champions?

• Someone who makes a contribution to the community and who is not necessarily recognised.
• Residents who are caring for someone informally or on an individual basis or involved in volunteering.
• Local residents of any age; Male or female, an adult or a young person.
• Any resident who goes the extra mile to help their family, friends or the wider community of Southend-on-Sea.
