Pier and Foreshore

After the fire on October 9th 2005, the Pier Head reopened to the public in August 2006.  A train service operates to just this side of the damaged area, and the walkway is open.  The Visitor Information Centre is also open as usual at the shore end of the Pier.

PierThe Pier

Still the world's longest pleasure pier, at 1.34 miles (2158 metres or 2360 yards), this structure has had a chequered history with a number of disasters, natural and man-made. A range of events take place throughout the year, such as visits by Tall Ships, and the Punch & Judy Festival, and attracts over thousands of visitors per annum.

The Pier is used all year round for angling, with passes available for both day and night fishing.

Access to the Pier is via the train system, or by a walkway which extends almost to the end of the structure.

Foreshore

Foreshore sketchThere are 7 miles of foreshore within the Borough, and considerable areas of this are of environmental significance. There is also a nature reserve and a site of special scientific interest and we manage over 2,000 mooring sites.
