Collaboration by Paul and Dulcie Miller
Date: 25th Jan 2012 - 14th Feb 2012
Location: Southend Central Library
Cost: Free
A quite unique exhibition in the Central Gallery exploring the mutual inspiration felt between a father in his 60s and his daughter of 2 years.
Utilising the medium of painted collage, Paul and Dulcie Miller present an exhibition of the muse; as viewed from both ends of the spectrum: the trained and experienced hand of the professional artist and the impulsive, spontaneous gestures of a child, unified in inspiration, through response and suggestion. Many of the pieces on display have been initiated by Dulcie with Paul extending the image according to suggestion: a truly collaborative achievement.
Aside from yielding pieces of expressive and exciting visual art this joint practice has allowed Paul to observe his child's development and to enhance his own development as both parent and artist.
Paul has worked as a cartoonist and illustrator, stage designer and sign writer in a varied and successful art-based career, though latterly since the birth of his child has recognised the mutual value of artistic expression in parenting.
Dedicating any profits from the exhibition to the leading child welfare charities, Paul hopes in staging this exhibition to encourage the beneficial interaction between parent and child.
"I am doing nothing clever, nothing any parent couldn't and that is a major part of my point."
Works will be available to purchase.
