Mike Drane 'Waterscape Essex'

Date: 2nd May 2012 - 25th May 2012

Location: Southend Central Library

Cost: Free

Anyone with an appreciation of this county’s natural beauty must pencil in a visit to the Central Gallery’s latest exhibition by Essex photographer Mike Drane.

Mike's inherent and extensive knowledge of Essex, its visual wiles and ways inform and inspire his practice: with a natural eye for the startling image, that transient moment of perfect composition and seemly atmosphere; Mike has assembled a photographic portfolio which will arrest and engage you.

In documenting a landscape known and cherished by the artist, of 'fretted coastlines, estuaries, waterways and gently rolling countryside', Mike acknowledges the similarity of his work to that of Constable's, whose great reverence for the Essex and Suffolk countryside suffused his sensibility and inspired many great works of oil on canvas. Mike's choice of medium and the most up-to-the-minute digital photography techniques he employs could not be more different but the shared objective is evident: to present the landscape with a clarity of vision, capturing its pathos and character.

Prints will be available to purchase.
