Answer:

Tenancies created after 15th January 1989 are generally known as Assured Tenancies, with rights given by the Tenant's Guarantee. This is guidance issued by the Housing Corporation which Associations must comply with.

Some housing association tenants who have an assured tenancy have the right to buy the property they rent.
