Q: Vehicular Crossings - What is the approximate cost of a new crossing?

Answer:

It depends upon the amount of work required to be undertaken within the highway, but by way of a guide, if the footway is slab paving 6ft wide (1.83 metres) no grass verge, shrubbery etc., and the width of crossing to be provided is 8'0" (2.44 metres) wide and there are no statutory undertakers apparatus to be moved or street furniture, trees etc., the approximate cost, based on current rates would be about £800.00 (VAT is not applicable). However because the situation associated with each crossing is different, the quote you will receive may vary significantly from this figure. The cost of a crossing is calculated using the rates submitted by the Council's Contractor and these rates are reviewed annually and any change to the rates will be implemented from 1st October each year.
