Q: Does a fall detector stop a fall from happening?

Answer:

It doesn't stop a fall from happening, but does ensure the alarm is raised quickly if a fall does occur.

The detector is worn on your belt and detects if you fall over. A fall may mean you are injured, or unconscious, and cannot press the button on your pendant. The fall detector automatically alerts the monitoring centre who will contact the ambulance service. This fast response could save your life or prevent an injury from getting worse.

When used as part of a fall prevention programme agreed with your nurse or therapist, which may also include medication monitoring, improved walking patterns and reduction of trip hazards in the home, the fall detector can increase confidence and reduce the risk of falls.
