Free Library Talks and “Discovery Tours”
Free Talks and Tours from Southend Libraries
Over the last year, Southend Library staff delivered talks to 775 residents, and 162 people took part in a free guided "Discovery Tour" of the Central Library.
These events aim to make library services more accessible by providing opportunities for local residents and community groups to "re-discover" their library service, and find out more about the full range of resources on offer.
Free Talks and Tours available for 2012
In 2012, Southend Libraries are inviting any community group, business, charity school, college or local organisation to find out more by booking a speaker from the library service or arranging a "Discovery Tour".
Both the talks and tours are offered free of charge, but need to be pre booked in advance. Talks are can be provided on Saturdays and evenings, if required. A library information pack is provided to everyone attending these events.
Simon Wallace, Community & Diversity Manager for Southend Libraries said:
"We have successfully delivered free community talks and tours for several years now. These sessions provide the opportunity for library staff to meet local residents, who in turn find out about the fantastic range of free resources available through the network of public libraries in the Borough"
He added "It's also about ensuring that the services we offer are relevant and accessible to all of Southend 's communities, and that the full library experience is available to anyone who might be excluded otherwise."
