The Diskettes Reading Group (for the Visually Impaired)

The Diskettes reading group is for visually impaired people and meets on the first Tuesday of the month at Southend Central Library. This is the second reading group at Southend Library that was set up specifically for people experiencing difficulty with their sight. Biscuits and refreshments are provided and membership is free.

The group was started in September 2008 by Greg Simmonds, Audience Development Librarian for Southend Borough Libraries. Greg says "Meeting every month has increased social contact for more visually impaired people and provides another opportunity to promote and share reading experiences. We run the group in partnership with Southend Blind Welfare Organisation and the Royal National Institute for the Blind". Pat, a new member of the group says, "coming to the group every month has made me feel 10 years younger!"
