Southend Town Centre

Southend Town Centre, Artists ImpressionSouthend Town Centre provides most of the town's 1.3 million square feet of retail floor space. It comprises of a pedestrianised High Street, and is anchored at both ends by two large shopping centres The Royals at the south end and The Victoria (formerly known as Victoria Plaza) at the north end.

Improvements to the shopping provision in Southend-on-Sea is continuous with a major redevelopment taking place at The Victoria. Investment of around £21.5 million will see the complete modernisation of the centre, much of which will be undercover, creating a more pleasurable entrance to the High Street from Southend Victoria train station.

Town Centre Management

Within the Economic Regeneration section is a dedicated Town Centre Manager. Working closely with all other Council departments, and importantly, the businesses within the town centre, this role helps to maintain, improve and develop the quality, vitality and viability of Southend town centre for all users.

As a result, this role provides better communications and understanding between the Town Centre business groups, safety partnership, businesses and the Council.

New initiatives are constantly being looked at to improve and further develop the attractiveness, accessibility, security and regeneration of the town centre.
