Becoming a Teacher

Are you looking for a Teaching post in Southend-on-Sea?

These pages are for Teachers and Newly Qualified Teachers who are looking for teaching posts in Southend-on-Sea, as well as for people who are interested in training to become a Teacher.
 
To train to become a Teacher you must have an honours degree or an equivalent recognised qualification and have achieved at least a grade C or equivalent in GCSE English and Mathematics. You will also need at least a GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Science if you wish to teach in primary schools or across Key stages 2 and 3.
 
To become a qualified teacher in maintained schools in England and Wales, you will need to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). There are a variety of routes into Teaching and these are explained in full on the TDA website www.tda.gov.uk/recruit/becomingateacher.aspx
 
Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) courses are available at universities and colleges throughout the UK. School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) is a grant based route that enables students to achieve the PGCE and QTS at the end of the year long programme. This route offers strong theory of education input and at least two school placements.
 
The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) is an employment based route that offers students a school based training programme. At the end of the three terms programme students achieve QTS.
