Summer Reading Challenge

Summer Reading Challenge - Animal Agents

Every year thousands of families all over the country are involved in the UK's biggest reading event for children in libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge. Co-ordinated by The Reading Agency, the aim of the challenge is to get children to read six books from their library during the summer holidays.

Everyone who signs up for the Summer Reading Challenge can keep track of the books they read and receive encouragement to keep reading all summer long. It's great fun for kids and what's more, it doesn't cost a penny to join.

This year’s Libraries Summer Reading Challenge is called Animal Agents. The challenge is recommended for school aged children aged from 4 to 11 and is the biggest event in the Library calendar for children. Individual invitations to every child in Southend have been sent to all primary schools in the borough.

The challenge will run at all of our Southend Borough Libraries from Saturday 22nd July to Saturday 2nd September.

In Southend, children are invited to read six books over the summer holiday and collect rewards along the way.

The rewards include special collectors cards, certificate, medal and swimming voucher. There will also be competitions and raffles to win special Summer Reading Challenge prizes including tickets for Southend United and Adventure Island wristbands.

Look out for further information about Animal Agents at our branch libraries. Let the stories begin!
