What can I claim for help with Rent and Council Tax
If you are on a low income you could be entitled to have help with paying your rent or council tax. The help that you get and where from depends on a number of factors.
Council Tax Reduction
For help with paying your Council Tax you need to apply for Council Tax Reduction. This scheme is managed by the Benefits department at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council. You will either receive help from:
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council Housing Benefit department; or
Department for Working and Pensions Universal Credit department
If you are
- pension age; or
- a family with more than 2 children
- living in a property where you receive support from your landlord or an agency on behalf of your landlord
you will receive help with your rent through the housing benefit scheme administered by the Benefits department from Southend-on-Sea Borough Council. For further information about Housing Benefit and the restrictions that you may face when applying please visit our Can I claim Benefit page.
