Opening Times


  • The Pier will open at 12:00pm on Monday 23rd and Monday 30th October due to essential repairs to the Pier walkway, the train service will operate as normal. 

  • During the Pier Ghost Train event last entry time to the pier will be at 16:00 and closes at 17:00

Please note: The last entry onto the Pier is one hour before closing. Opening times are seasonal and may change annually.

Spring Season (27th March to 21st May)

08:15 to 18:00 Monday to Friday 
08:15 to 20:00 Saturday and Sunday

Summer Season (22nd May to 3rd September)

08:15 to 20:00 Daily

Autumn Season (4th September to 29th October) 

08:15 to 18:00 Monday to Friday 
08:15 to 20:00 Saturday and Sunday

Winter Season (31st October to March 2017)

09:15 to 17:00 Wednesday to Sunday

Regardless of the season the Pier will be open on all school and public holidays. With the exception of Christmas Day, when the Pier is closed.

The Pier is suitable for all ages and both the walkway and Pier trains have disabled access.

If you need a wheelchair, you can hire one from the Visitor Information Centre by calling them in advance on 01702 215620.

The Pier toilets are inside the Royal Pavilion.

Catering is currently available from the Salt Café. To see what is served please take a look at their menu. The Salt Café will be open Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays and Sundays will be open from 09:00 to 19:00.

Children under the age of 3 can go for free.

Pier Train Information

The trains run on the hour and half past from the shore end and quarter past and quarter to from the Pier head.

Please note: No dogs or pets are allowed on Southend Pier except for assistance dogs.
