Shoebury Garrison Heritage Centre

The Battery Gun Store located on Warrior Square Road is currently in a poor state of repair as it has been left unused for many years.

The plan is to develop this into a Heritage Centre for the community.

What are the proposals?

  • A museum and archive area will be available for those interested in seeing the history of Shoeburyness including the Garrison's military history.
  • Information about Gunners Park including volunteering opportunities and guides for walking and cycling, which will enable you to enjoy the heritage of the site and the wildlife of the wider countryside.
  • Educational facilities for researchers and local schools to learn more about the area.
  • A café will also provide a location to relax with stunning views towards the estuary.

Who is involved?

We are working closely with Country and Metropolitan Homes to restore the former Battery Gun Store as a Heritage Centre as part of their planning obligations.

The Shoebury Society, Shoeburyness Archives, Southend Education Trust and Essex Wildlife Trust have come together as a managing body to contribute to the design of the Heritage Centre and will be responsible for its future running.
