What is Supporting People?

If you are over 16 with a local connection to Southend, our services can help you build the skills you need to live independently and manage your own home or finding you accommodation if you are homeless.

Who can we help?

We can help if you are:

  • homeless or at risk of becoming homeless - our services could offer you accommodation with staff available on site to help you gain the skills to live independently in the future, or our floating support service can visit you in your own home and work with you to keep your home/tenancy
  • a teenage parent, leaving care or a young person at risk - our services could offer you accommodation with staff available on site to help you gain the skills to live independently in the future
  • an older person needing support – you can apply for sheltered accommodation of which we have a number of providers (including our own Council properties) or you can ask for floating support to visit you in your own home to support you to maintain your own home
  • a refugee or asylum seeker - our floating support service could offer you support in your own home to help you gain the skills to manage your tenancy
  • experiencing domestic abuse - our services can help you access the Southend on Sea Women’s Refuge, access a refuge outside the borough or provide both female and male victims with support in the community or in your own home
  • an ex-offender - our services could offer you accommodation with staff available on site to help you gain the skills to live independently in the future, or our floating support service can visit you in your own home and work with you to keep your home/tenancy.  Further information can also be found at Essex Probation  or the Southend Youth Offending Service
  • If you have a physical or sensory impairment, a learning disability or a mental health problem our services can provide you with accommodation with support staff on site or our floating support service can provide you with support in your own home to help you maintain your tenancy.
