Telecare Equipment

Example of one of Telecare Equipment

Lifeline Home Unit

Supplied with a Personal Trigger, this provides peace of mind by monitoring a range of events around the home. An alarm can be raised by pressing the trigger or the large illuminated button on the unit. The call will go to the 24-hour monitoring centre who will take appropriate action.

Peronal Pendants

These can be worn around the neck or as a wrist band. A press of the button will put clients in touch with an operator in seconds. He or she will be aware of the circumstances and will summon help using a two-way speech function.

Smoke Detector

Whilst all homes should have a smoke detector, this device is part of the lifeline system and will raise an alarm in the case of a fire. The operator will summon the emergency services, meaning the client doesn't need to do so, and can leave the building quickly.

PIR Movement Detector

This monitors clients within their homes and can be set to detect whether the person has risen from their bed. No movement for a specified period will raise an alarm prompting the operator to check that the client is safe and well. If the operator fails to speak with the client, they will alert a carer, relative, or back-up response services, to visit and confirm that the client is safe.

Fall Detector

A device worn around the waist will detect a change of angle or sudden jolt. This is an essential safeguard for those at risk of falls, stroke, blackouts or fainting. In the case of a fall, the client might not be able to press their lifeline button, but the fall detector will automatically raise the alarm.

Flood Detector

An unobtrusive sensor provides an early warning of potential floods and raises an alarm. Reassuring for any homeowner at risk from leaving taps running, this safeguards against costly and potentially dangerous accidents.

Bed Occupancy Sensor

This is a pressure pad placed under the mattress. If a client gets out of bed and fails to return after a given time, an alarm is raised. The sensor can be set to switch on a bedside light which activates when the person gets out of bed.

Bogus Caller Button

This is placed by the door to enable clients to alert the monitoring centre if they are worried by unwanted callers. The two-way speech function on the lifeline unit will enable help to be summoned if necessary.

Carbon Monoxide Detector

This detects dangerous levels of carbon monoxide and raises an alarm call to a warden or the monitoring centre. Carbon monoxide is a lethal gas that can be emitted by faulty gas and solid fuel appliances such as boilers or fires. It is odourless, colourless and tasteless, which makes it very difficult to detect.

Temperature Extremes Sensor

This detects a rapid rise or fall in temperature caused by, for example, an unattended saucepan, which might not set off the smoke alarm. It also detects a rapid drop in temperature such as a central heating failure.
