Southend-on-Sea Borough Council

Tree management

trees at GarrisonOur Borough is one of the most densely tree populated towns in the east of England. We look after over 20,000 highway trees situated within footpaths and grass verges, in addition to the trees in local parks, gardens and woodlands. Trees are a vital part of our environment. They reduce air pollution, provide shelter for birds, insects and animals, and soften the harsher lines of the townscape. For these reasons we are keen to protect all privately owned trees that are important to the streetscene, and which have visual amenity value both to the residents and the visitors of Southend Borough.

Some of our more important trees are protected by Tree Preservation Orders.
