Blue Food Waste Bin Scheme

What do I need to do?

Blue food waste bin
The blue food waste bin collection provides a weekly kerbside collection of unavoidable cooked and uncooked food waste on the same day as your pink recycling, clear textile recycling and black refuse sacks. If you are not sure when your collection day is, please use the 'Where I Live' facility.

You need to place your blue food waste bin at the edge of your property by 7am on your scheduled collection day where they can be seen and are easily accessible from the road. Please ensure they do not block the public highway (pavement or road).

Please see 'What can go in my blue food waste bin?' for details of what can be collected.

Should I line my bin?

Food parcelWe suggest that food waste is wrapped in sheets of newspaper to create individual 'parcels' to stop the food sticking to the inside of the bin. These parcels can then be placed directly into the bin.

However, if you prefer not to use newspaper please see our page on Compostable Liners. Please note that plastic shopping carrier bags, even those that state that they are degradable, cannot be used as these do not biodegrade and will affect the composting process.
