Recycling and Waste Collection - What can go in my sacks and bins?

Pink Recycling Sack 

Pink recycling sack

Please ensure all items are clean and free from food waste.

Paper:

  • Wrapping paper
  • Junk mail, leaflets & brochures
  • Envelopes
  • Shopping catalogues
  • Newspapers & magazines
  • Telephone directories
  • Shredded paper
  • Soft backed or paper backed books

Cardboard:

  • Sleeves from ready meals
  • Cereal boxes
  • Drink cartons and 'tetra paks'
  • Greeting cards
  • Small pieces of packing cardboard
  • Confectionary boxes
  • Toilet roll tubes
  • Large cardboard boxes (to be flattened and left next to or under your pink sack)

Steel and aluminium:

  • Food and drink cans (no need to remove labels)
  • Ready meal and pie foil trays
  • Takeaway containers
  • Cooking foil
  • Metal jar lids
  • Sweet, biscuit and cake tins
  • Empty aerosol cans

Household Plastic Packaging:

  • Bottles (lids can either be left on or removed and placed in the sack separately)
  • Tubs, trays, yoghurt pots and takeaway containers
  • Film wrap & bubble wrap
  • Carrier bags (no degradable or biodegradable bags please)

Glass:

  • Unbroken glass bottles or jars (all different colours. No need to remove labels)
  • Broken glass wrapped in thick newspaper or in a cardboard box

Clean and dry textiles:

  • All clothing
  • Worn or torn clothing (but clean)
  • Paired shoes
  • Handbags
  • Curtains
  • Unsoiled duvets & pillows
  • Sheets & pillow cases

Cooked/uncooked food:

  • Bread, biscuits and pastries
  • Cheese
  • Fish (including bones)  
  • Meat (including bones)
  • Tea & coffee grounds
  • Fruit & vegetables (including peelings) 
  • Noodles, rice and pasta
  • Eggs (including the shells)
  • Leftovers and plate scrapings
  • Out of date food (please remove packaging)

Black refuse sacks Non recyclable items:
  • Unpleasant wastes such as disposable nappies or incontinence pads
  • Polystyrene
  • Kitchen roll
  • Tissues & wipes
  • Pet bedding, faeces & cat litter

Garden Waste Sack/Bin
Garden waste sacks

The following items can be included in either the wheeled bin or garden waste sacks depending on which scheme you have signed up to.

  • Grass cuttings
  • Leaves
  • Tree, shrub and rose prunings
  • Branches up to 30 cm (12 inches) long and 2.5 cm (1 inch) diameter
  • Cut flowers
  • Weeds
