Stray Dogs

If you find a stray dog you should call us anytime or bring it to the Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend between 8.45am and 5.15pm Monday to Friday.

Don't assume that the dog is unwanted and keep it without reporting its whereabouts as the owner may be desperately looking for it. Dogs that are not claimed are kennelled for 7 days and then found good homes. None of the dogs are destroyed unless their temperaments are unsound or a veterinary surgeon recommends it.

Lost Dogs

You should notify us as soon as you become aware that it is missing, giving a detailed description of the dog, any collar it may be wearing and whether it has been microchipped. You must inform us should the situation change and particularly if the dog is recovered.

If your dog has been found by the Animal Warden, you will be responsible for paying for its return or for any kennelling costs that we may have incurred.

By law, all dogs must wear a collar and identity tag, bearing the owner's contact details, when in a public place. You are also strongly recommended to have your dog or cat microchipped.
