Empty Homes

Empty Homes Information

Empty Residential Property

The Council works proactively towards encouraging the owners of long-term empty homes in the private sector to bring them back into occupation.

Empty properties if left unattended can often deteriorate in condition and start to cause problems to neighbours, leading to complaints about nuisance to the Council.

The Council has adopted an Empty Homes Strategy in relation to dealing with any empty home that has been empty for 2 years or more, a copy of the strategy document can be downloaded from this page

In some circumstances, the Council awards empty homes grants to the owners of empty properties to assist with the costs of repairs and improvements needed to bring a property into a condition fit for renting.
