Benefit Advice for Young People

If you're 16 or over you may be able to claim certain benefits or tax credits (government payments) if you're on a low income, looking for work, disabled or caring for a child or older person.

Some people's circumstances will mean that they are not entitled to claim benefits for example Unaccompannied Asylum Seekers.

Direct Gov has a dedicated section giving advice about what benefits can be claimed and how to claim them.

There is a section for young people who are:

Not working or who are working but earning a low wage - Within this section you will find information about Jobseekers Allowance, Income support, Housing Benefit and Working Tax Credit.

Caring for a child or a older person - Within this section you will find information about Carers Allowance and Child Tax Credit

Ill or Disabled - Within this section you will find information about Employment and Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance

Students - Within this section you will find information about the circumstances students can claim any benefits

There is also a section giving information about extra financial help and where to claim it from.

Please go to Direct Gov for further advice.
