Beach and Changing Huts
Renting or Buying a Beach Hut
The Beach Huts are all privately owned. The Council owns the beach and leases the plots for tenants to build a hut upon. It is therefore not possible to rent a beach hut although they can be purchased when owners chose to sell.
Any available beach huts are usually advertised through local agents. As the huts and their locations are so varied, it would be advisable to walk along the row, looking out for huts with agents' boards on and to then contact the agents directly.
Buying a beach hut is a formal process and you will need the services of a solicitor during the process.
The Southend Beach Hut Owners Association will be able to offer useful advice and may even know of huts about to come on to the market or available privately. Please find a link for their website on the right-hand side of this page under the 'Useful Websites' section.
The Council believes that membership of the Beach Hut Owners Association is beneficial to Hut owners and it provides access to a community, to preferential arrangements on costs such as legal work for leases, hut maintenance and insurance and in addition, offers some additional security as members notify the Association of any damage or concerns and it is then well placed to contact owners directly as appropriate.
