Southend-on-Sea has a fascinating history going back at least as far as Saxon times and the town has a valuable heritage of interesting old buildings, monuments and historic areas. You may have to look around for them but they are there - from early medieval churches to old farm buildings, timbered cottages to manor houses, Georgian houses to Victorian estates.
