Prince's Time Trail of Prittlewell
St. Mary's Church
St. Mary's Church was founded in Saxon times (part of a Saxon arch survives in the north wall) and formed the focus for the developing village of Prittlewell. The Church was effectively rebuilt, extended and embellished from the 12th to 16th centuries as the village grew and increased in wealth. Medieval buildings on North Street and East Street once enclosed the church from the road. Note the medieval hall house which survives opposite the Church entrance in Victoria Avenue.
