Council Housing Repairs and Maintenance

If you need a repair to an adaptation and it has been installed for at least one year, South Essex Homes repairs and maintenance team will undertake to carry-out the repair.

Reporting a Repair

You may report a repair either by

• Visiting the Central Area Housing Office. At 49 Alexandra Street , Southend-on-Sea (opposite Clarence Road car park)
• Calling one of the following freephone numbers:

An appointment, either morning, afternoon, or evening may be made for all repair work except emergencies.

Out-of-Hours Emergency Repairs

The Housing Service operates an emergency out-of-hours repair service to assist tenants with repair problems that have to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

The service is maintained by the Borough Services Organisation and has a wide range of tradesman on call, including plumbers, electricians and carpenters.

In addition to the Council's own representatives there are a number of specialist contractors on call to deal with lift failures, fire alarms, warden call systems etc.

Only emergency work is actioned and any problem that can wait until the next working day will not be carried out.

Emergency Work is work that is necessary to protect the Health and Safety of occupants and members of the public

For example burst pipes, total power failure and failed central heating systems (only during the winter months October-April, or where special circumstances exist).

Tenants should note that replacement of blown fuse or replacing broken windows is their responsibility. However, the Council will board up a broken window as an emergency measure.
