Full steam ahead - on water

Published Tuesday 20th July 10 in Council - news and information releases news

Famous old steamers visit Southend Pier.

Step back in time when you climb aboard a historic and lovingly-preserved ship for a pleasure cruise from Southend Pier.

From tomorrow (Wednesday 21st July) till Thursday 5th August, the legendary vessel Balmoral will be transporting passengers on a variety of breathtaking journeys through Tower Bridge, or to Whitstable, the River Medway, or to see the White Cliffs of Dover.

Then from Saturday 25th September to Saturday 9th October more voyages from Southend Pier will be available on the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, Waverley.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Deputy Leader, Councillor John Lamb, said: "These ships are unique and wherever they go they create a great deal of interest. They are a major attraction in Southend, so we advise people to book their sailing places as soon as possible."

The costs of trips vary according to the details of the journey, and normal Pier admission prices also still apply.
