Zombies in decayed city

It’s that time of year again when the dead rise from the grave and the reanimated turn Southend-on-Sea into zombie land as Southend Pier host its annual Zombie Walk and Ghost Train.

The walking dead return on Sunday 29 October for the annual Zombie Walk, with ghoulish guests invited to arrive in style at the Pier Pavilion from 1pm to begin the walk at 3pm.

Zombify yourself and take part in this thriller of an event. Entry is free and all zombies will also receive free entry to pier.

There will be a competition to find the best dressed zombie by Silent Studios plus an after party in the Park Inn Palace Hotel, where special offers will be available for zombies only.

That’s not all though, as the Pier train has been taken over by ghostly apparitions and you’re invited to take a ride on the Ghost Train for scary stories, fireworks and face painting. Join in the fun and frights on the October 21, 28 and November 4 from 6:30pm.

Tickets for the Ghost Train are £11 for adults and £7 for children. Booking is essential, you can book your tickets at the Visitor Information Centre or by calling 01702 215620.

Cllr Ann Holland, Executive Councillor for Culture, Tourism and the Economy said: “These events are a lot of fun; they bring out the creative side in everyone who takes part.

“In previous years, the zombies have looked very good and some are rather realistic; you can tell people put a lot of work in to their costumes, really getting into the spirit of the events, and I hope that continues this year.

“Both the Zombie Walk and the Ghost Train have become key Halloween events in Southend-on-Sea enjoyed by all, attracting many enthusiastic participants and amazed onlookers too.”
