A project aimed at getting women involved in volunteering and training in physical activity has received a funding boost of £147,000 National Lottery funding from Sport England.
The project, known as ‘She’s Ready’, has been set up by Active Life, and will be run with the assistance of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council to improve the number of female volunteers in physical activity.
The funding has come from Sport England’s ‘Opportunity Fund’, which aims to promote volunteering in local communities to help build a cohesive community spirit.
The aim of the project is for women to enjoy the benefits of volunteering in sport and physical activity – whatever their background, age, or, interests.
This new volunteering project is pioneering, modern, and exciting, with local women at the heart of the project. They will design, deliver, and shape the project’s on-going development and will be inspired to give their time to an important local cause ,whilst they are having fun with friends, receiving training and gaining new skills.
The women will be able to get involved in helping to deliver sessions, marketing, admin and coordination of the programme, aiming to empower women to enhance their lives through being involved in this inspirational programme.
Cllr Ann Holland, Executive Councillor for Culture, Tourism and the Economy, said: “With the Christmas period comes the inevitable unhealthy treat here and there, so it is important we continue to promote healthy lifestyles throughout the winter months.
“Projects such as ‘She’s Ready’ rely on receiving funding to ensure they can develop the women involved accordingly, so to receive this funding is a great help, not only for the project, but for the women of Southend.”
