Southend-on-Sea businesses celebrated Small Business Saturday in style again this year with a range of promotions throughout the Borough.
Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
Across the UK, Small Business Saturday, held on 2 December 2017, was the most successful campaign yet with an estimated £748 million spent on the day. The campaign was publically supported by the Prime Minister, the Mayor or London and a range of celebrities including fashion designer Alexa Chung and actress Billie Piper.
In total, 50 businesses from Southend-on-Sea registered with the national campaign which entered them into our local competition and we are pleased to announce that Spa Renaissance, 615 – 617 Southchurch Road is the winner of the Southend Small Business for 2017, with manager Anna Freeman winning two tickets for afternoon tea at the Gleneagles Guest House.
Cllr Ann Holland, Executive Councillor for Culture, Tourism and the Economy, said: “Small Business Saturday is a day that we put in our calendars at the start of the year, as we look to celebrate local businesses, and the hard-work and dedication they put in each day of the year.
“It is not easy to compete with the big name brands, especially with an increase in online shopping, so being able to shine a light on these local businesses is always a pleasure.
“Small Business Saturday is just the start, we urge residents and visitors alike to think local when planning a trip to the shops, and help build a local sustainable economy.”
