Yet more good news for Southend Pier

Southend-on-Sea’s crown jewel, the world’s longest pleasure pier, has been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for receiving consistently positive reviews from its visitors.
The scheme was set up by TripAdvisor in 2011 to celebrate the most well-received and reviewed places to stay, restaurants, attractions and holiday rentals across the globe that receive consistently positive reviews over the course of a year. The 12 month review period is between April 1 and March 31, with Southend-on-Sea pier receiving 1,612 reviews in that time.
Cllr James Courtenay, cabinet member for growth said: “It is great to see so many positive reviews being left because we pride ourselves on the fantastic tourism offer available for residents and visitors alike. The pier is a huge attraction that entices people from all over the world to visit our sunny seaside town, and to receive the Certificate of Excellence is another feather in the cap for this famous landmark.
“I would like to thank hardworking staff at the pier for their dedication to providing a quality service that ensures day-trippers and residents are leaving lots of positive reviews for all to see. We must also thank all those who have left reviews, as receiving that feedback is so important to continually ensuring that the Pier offers what people want from their visit.”
The pier has received plenty of plaudits recently, from receiving the prestigious Red Plaque for the historic importance of the pier train in August 2017, to smashing record visitor numbers last month, when a staggering 47,048 visited May 2018 (the previous May record was 37,349).
Hosting a number of key events in the cultural calendar, the pier plays a pivotal role in bringing day-trippers to Southend-on-Sea, with popular events and activities such as the Folk and Ale Festival, The Great Pier Walk and the visit of the Mercedes Tall ship. More recent additions include the first Southend Pier Marathon, which was held in March, and the new Laurel and Hardy pop-up gift shop, which opened last Saturday. This Sunday (17 June) there will be live music performances from local bands at the Sunday Showcase at the pier pavilion.
