Southend children, young people and families can look forward to a summer of free weekly outdoor activities, for the third year running, thanks to Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s popular ParkLives.

Led by the council’s Sport and Leisure Team, experienced instructors from community sport and physical activity organisations will deliver more than 30 free activities across Shoebury and Chalkwell parks from the end of July, through the summer and into September.

These free, fun, and informal activities will include scooter sessions, street basketball, parkour (free running), dodgeball, rounders and bootcamp. The 12-week programme starts on Tuesday 17 July in Shoebury Park, with dodgeball and rounders.

Advance booking is advised to secure a place on any of the sessions, or you can take your chance and show up and play on the day.

Councillor Lesley Salter, cabinet member for healthy communities and wellbeing, said: “The council is extremely proud to be able to offer a programme of more than 30 free activities to Southend children, young people and families over the summer.

“ParkLives Southend is an extremely popular community activity programme which was shortlisted for a national award earlier this year for the impact it has had in bringing together families, creating friendships and developing skills.

“This year we’re offering a few different sessions such as bootcamp and scooter sessions, which I’m sure will be incredibly popular with children and young people.

“These free sessions really help tackle some of the barriers which people say can discourage them from taking part in physical activity such as cost, distance and lack of suitable provision. We hope as many of you as possible take advantage of this fantastic free programme.”
