Park your Bikes!

Published Thursday 16th September 10 in Council - news and information releases news

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is helping to keep your bikes safe.

Cycle Southend has worked hard to install a number of cycle stands and shelters throughout the town.

Protective Secure Cycle Shelters can now be seen in the majority of the Borough's schools, Garon Park, Belfairs Swimming Centre and the University of Essex.

It is not going to stop there, with Southend Victoria, Southend East and Leigh Railway stations due to receive new cycle shelters by March 2011.

Cycle parking is another major feature that residents will start to see more and more. It is currently being implemented around the town, such as small local shopping areas and places that people often make short cycle journeys to.

Councillor Mark Flewitt, Executive Councillor for Planning and Transport says: "This is another important step in the development of Southend's Cycle Town status!"

"It makes it much easier for people to use their bikes in their everyday routine. I hope that people take advantage of these new facilities and get on their bikes!"
