A local street sweeper has received official recognition for going above and beyond the call of duty to help make Southend a safer, cleaner and healthier place to live.
Peter Henton, 54, who is employed by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's waste management contractors Cory Environmental, is responsible for keeping Warrior Square clean and tidy.
His dedication to the broom has so impressed local residents and traders that his sterling efforts have been rewarded with an official seal of approval.
Peter, who has been working for Cory since 1991, has become a familiar face around Warrior Square and the surrounding area.
Local residents, shop owners and councillors were determined to ensure his commitment, hard work and enthusiasm did not go unnoticed.
And now the proud grandfather has been presented with a Certificate of Excellence to recognise the exceptional street cleansing standards he has brought to the local community.
Representatives from both Cory, the Council, Turning Tides and the Residents of Warrior Square Association, were all present to see Peter receive his certificate.
Beaming with pride he said: "I have always liked to do a good job. There is no point in doing something half-heartedly!
"I'd heard that some of the local people wanted to put their appreciation of my efforts on record but I never actually thought I would be presented with an award. I'm absolutely chuffed!"
Milton Ward Councillor Nigel Folkard said: "It's great to be able to pay tribute to someone who does that little bit extra for their community. I thank Peter for all his great work."
