Southend-on-Sea Borough Council has opened a Book of Condolence to honour the memory of Polish President Lech Kaczynski and the 96 other victims of the Smolensk air crash.
The Book of Condolence is open to anyone to sign and can be found to the left of the ground floor reception area at the Civic Centre on Victoria Avenue .
Earlier this week the Worshipful the Mayor of Southend, Councillor Brian Smith, sent letters of condolence to the Polish Ambassador in London and the Mayor of Southend's twin town Sopot.
He said: "We have placed a Book of Condolence in the Civic Centre so residents of the borough can express their sympathies with the Polish nation and our local Polish community.
"This was a tragic event and we are very aware of the impact it has had on Polish people living in Southend, who make a valued contribution to our society and the local economy."
Ninety seven people died when a Tupolev TU154 carrying Mr Kaczynski and dozens of Polish dignitaries crashed in fog as it prepared to land at Smolensk in Russia on Saturday.
They were on their way to a memorial service marking the 70th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre in which 22,000 Poles were executed by Russian troops on Stalin's orders.
