This Sunday 14th November the Worshipful the Mayor of Southend, Councillor Ann Holland, will take part in Remembrance Day commemorations at the Cenotaph in Westcliff.

The parade of veterans and youth organisations will assemble along with the standard bearers and wreath bearers at Clifftown Parade and Prittlewell Square from 10.30am.

The Queens Colour Party will then march to the head of the parade, which will move off towards the Cenotaph on Westcliff Parade at 10.42am.

A procession of representatives from Southend's faith communities led by The Mayor's Chaplain, the Reverend Canon Michael Ballard, will leave Wilson Road at 10.50am.

Upon their arrival at the Cenotaph the parade will come to attention and remain so until the arrival of the Mayor.

The Remembrance Day Service commences at 11am sharp to the chimes of Big Ben, after which the Last Post will be played.

During the Service the Mayor will lay a wreath on the Cenotaph on behalf of the residents of the town and the members and officers of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council.

Wreaths will also be laid by the town's MPs David Amess and James Duddridge, the Essex county branch of the Royal British Legion, the borough's police, fire and ambulance services and representatives of the faith communities.

After the laying of wreaths the hymn 'All People That On Earth Do Dwell' will be sung before prayers are led by Canon Ballard.

There will then be a reading by Rabbi Binyamin Barr followed by an address from Canon Ballard and the hymn 'O God, Our Help In Ages Past'.

The Revd Canon Steven Burdett will then give a blessing before the playing of the National Anthem.

After the service the parade will form up again and the Mayoral party will walk to the dais just before Prittlewell Square to take the salute and march past.

Councillor Ann Holland said: "It is vitally important that we continue to remember and honour those brave men and women who have given their lives in the service of their country.

"As well as those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the two world wars we will also be remembering those who have died in more recent conflicts around the world.

"Southend came out in force to thank the Royal Anglian Regiment when it paraded earlier this year and made me immensely proud to be the Mayor of this town.

"I hope as many people as possible attend this Sunday's commemorations, which will provide another opportunity to remember those who are no longer with us in peaceful reflection."

In addition to Sunday's Remembrance Day Service the Mayor will also lead two minutes of silence outside WH Smith in Southend High Street at 11am on Thursday 11th November.

A number of road closures will be in operation before and after Sunday's parade.

Westcliff Road will be closed eastwards from its junction with Marine Avenue to Wilson Road from 10am to 12.30pm.

Clifftown Parade, Clifton Terrace and Prittlewell Square will be closed from 10am to 12.30pm.

Access to Clifton Terrace will be prevented during this period by the other road closures but vehicles will still be able to leave via Devereux Road .

A temporary prohibition of waiting, loading and unloading will be in force for the southern section of Clifftown Parade from 7am to 12.30pm.

It will also be in force eastwards for the northern section from a point 45m east of Wilson Road for a distance of 75m from 9am to 12.30pm.
