The wintery music season is upon us and Southend’s famous Boys’ and Girls’ choirs will be performing across the town as well as further afield in Essex and London.

From December a group of choristers from the Southend Boys' Choir will perform carols during the weekends in the restaurants of two of London 's top hotels.

Visitors to both Claridge's and the Jumeriah Carlton Towers Hotel will be serenaded by the boys every Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

In the meantime Southend Girls' Choir will once again perform in the lovely St Mary Woolnoth church in the city of London for the Langbourne Ward Carol Service on Tuesday 14th December.

Other joint events include performances at St Martin in the Fields church, Trafalgar Square , on Thursday 16th December and St James Church, Piccadilly, on Thursday 23rd December.

For the performance at St James a coach will run to the capital for spectators and supporters, giving time for shopping and sightseeing. For more information please ring 01702-303628

However, the highlight of the season is set to be their performances at London's magnificent Royal Albert Hall.

Members of both choirs will sing two performances of "Santa's Christmas Cracker" on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd December.

Tickets for the London concerts can be purchased via the websites of the individual websites.

Nearer to home the choirs can be found at the Cliffs Pavilion on the 30th November, Southend High Street on the 11th December and Holy Trinity Church , Southchurch, on the 17th December.

They will also be performing carols for charities and other organisations in order to raise funds for worthy causes. For a list of the choirs' events visit http://www.southendchoirs.org.uk/

Councillor Derek Jarvis, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture, said: "Southends Choirs are made up of young people aged from eight to 19 and have raised thousands of pounds for charities across the UK over the past few years.

"It is a great thing that they do, and it's wonderful that they have such a jam-packed schedule this festive period so more people can hear their beautiful singing."
