Southend families with children due to start school in September 2011 are reminded that Saturday 15th January is the closing date for applications.
Parents with access to the internet are urged to apply online at http://www.southend.gov.uk/ Currently, 80 per cent of applications are made via this route. It is recommended because:
- it is easy, reliable, secure and confidential
- parents receive immediate confirmation that the application has been received
- the online facility is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until midnight on the closing date of Saturday 15th January, 2011
- for those parents who apply online, offers of places will be sent by e-mail on the offer day - Monday 4th April, 2011 and
- parents who apply online will be able to accept the offer of a school place online by using their application reference.
For parents who prefer not to use the online process, paper copies of the application form are available from Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Pupil Access Team on 01702-215007, ext 5942.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Children and Learning, Councillor Roger Hadley, said: "We very strongly encourage parents to apply for places in time.
"This is because we have growing numbers of children in the borough and the number of pupils applying for reception places for September 2011 will be higher than for last September.
"If an application is late it is less likely we would be able to offer parents a place for their child at the school of their choice. "
