British Swimming is staging an assessment camp for its synchronised diving team at the new Southend Swimming and Diving Centre – and you’re invited to come and watch!

The team's Russian coach Alexei Evangulov will be running the rule over the country's most talented divers at the £13.5m centre in Garon Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

And members of the public can come and watch the synchro divers being put through their paces in the centre's dive pool for FREE.

The sessions which will be open to the public will take place between 6pm and 7.30pm on Friday, 10.30am to 11.30am and 2.30pm to 5pm on Saturday and 11am to 1pm on Sunday.

Saturday's second session will take the form of pool training and a platform competition and Sunday's session will take the form of a springboard competition.

Councillor Derek Jarvis, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture, said: "We are delighted to be hosting British Swimming's synchro diving assessment camp.

"We had been due to host their individual assessment camp earlier this month but unfortunately it had to be postponed due to the weather.

"The divers who were scheduled to be taking part are based all over the country and it just wasn't going to be possible for them to get to Southend in the adverse conditions.

"But synchronised diving is even more of a spectacle and this assessment camp gives people a unique opportunity to see this fascinating sport at close hand."
