Fancy doing your bit for charity? Then grab your goggles and head down to Belfairs Swim Centre in the New Year to get in some training for a very worthwhile Swim-a-thon.

On Friday 8th April 2011, eager participants will be taking the plunge to swim 5km for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Marie Curie is an organisation dedicated to providing more and better care for cancer patients and their families through the Marie Curie Nursing Service and its associated hospices, as well as carrying out research and innovation in the field of cancer care.

Councillor Derek Jarvis, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council's Executive Councillor for Culture, said: "As well as being in aid of a very worthy cause this event is a great incentive to get fit for a testing 5km challenge!"
